Laughing Gulls of Wildwood

June 28, 2011

Wildwood NJ is the home of one of the longest boardwalks on the the east coast of the United States. Cape may has a unique shape and funnels birds on the eastern flyway to this lovely spot. The confluence of vacationing humans and these gulls make for an ecosystem where the gulls fly just above the heads of the crowd waiting for food to be dropped or shared.

Throw a french fry in the air and within 30 seconds the entire screech of birds will come. The birds split into two groups… those who hover in the air at arms length waiting to intercept a thrown potato and those who sit calmly on the ground waiting for the more aggressive birds to miss.
